Sheep Production from my Experience
My own sheep flock began in 1978 when I bought a small flock of Cheviot / Finn cross ewes and also
a small flock of Suffolks. Since that time, and following our move from Saskatchewan to Nova Scotia,
our breeds of choice have changed quite significantly. In Nova Scotia we operated an intensive sheep
operation of about 500+ ewes, producing about 900 lambs per year. We started a miss-match assortment
of ewes using Suffolk, Dorset, Hampshire, and some Clun Forest rams. We also used some Cheviot and
some Border Leicester rams. Now some 20 odd years later, we are running a flock of pure bred Clun
Forest ewes, using both using Clun Forest rams and Suffolk rams. I wish I had done this years and years
ago.
