Our Border Collie training video.
Starting
Your Border Collie on Cattle, Sheep and Ducks is an awfully long name for a Border Collie training tape,
but I wanted to cover all of the starting possibilities for people with young Border Collie pups and so I
thought the title should also represent the ingredients of the program. We also produce an assortment of
other farm videos.
During the runs on the final day of the ISDS qualifying trial, I keep the camera rolling on the
competition field. At noon is a chance for me to catch some of the interviews needed for the final
day.
Obviously, until the last of the runs on the Friday afternoon none of us know who all the
handlers are going to be in the Finals and so I also try to get some talks from these successful
handlers on Saturday at dinner time. An easier way to do this is to have a member of the National
team to talk about the different people who have qualified. So, for this year, Julie Simpson, a
past winner of the International Sheep Dog Society’s Supreme, spoke on camera about the Scottish
handlers.

Then Con McGarry, a regular at the International Sheepdog Finals, and a strong competitor
at the ISDS World trial at Bala, spoke about the Irish handlers.

I usually manage to get some of the handlers as well, and so I am able to use either, depending
on what I have got. On the Friday evening I managed to bump into both Bobby Dalziel and then Dick Roper,
just as I was packing up my gear, and so they gave me some short talks.
